Playa del Carmen was originally a small fishing village south of Cancun, but in recent years it has transformed into a bustling tourist resort. It is one of the most colourful and diverse towns on the Mayan Riviera. The island of Cozumel, which offers some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving in the world, is just a short boat ride away. The site of Chichén Itzá is 3 hours away, but it's definitely worth the trip! Although touristy, Playa del Carmen is captivating and picturesque, full of small and charming Mexican shops and restaurants. This little city has so much to offer if you want it.
