The Bahama Islands are an archipelago made up of roughly 2,000 islands when you take into account the cays, which are wee islands that form on coral reefs. Nassau, located on New Providence, is the capital of the Bahamas and boasts a blend of vibrant Neo-colonial 19th century buildings and modern hotel resorts. CocoCay or Little Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, is one of the Berry Islands, a collection of cays and small islands, and is located approximately 88 kilometres north of Nassau. It is used exclusively for tourism by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Little Stirrup Cay is adjacent to Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruises' private island since 1977. In 2019, the island underwent extensive renovations by Royal Caribbean at a cost of $250 million USD. A pier was built on the north side of the island, allowing cruise ships to dock directly instead of using tenders. The east end is the hub of recreational activities with beaches fronting a coral basin where manatee, rays, and numerous fish can be observed. Nature trails span the entire length and breadth of the island. The renovation also included a water park, with North America’s largest water slide, Daredevil’s Peak.
